We went to Rome, Italy, the first part of November 2008 and I am finally getting around to posting some of the photos we took of our trip.

The Colosseum was amazing! So old and still there. It began in 72 and was completed in the year 80. It could contain up to 50,000 spectators. We had a guided tour that was well worth the price of the ticket.

This picture shows where the floor of the Coloseum would have been and the complex underground system, which included the various mechanisms and apparatus for the games, the corridors for the transit of the gladiators and the wild beasts. The history of the gladiators is very interesting and quite gruesome.

This picture shows the three walls of the Colosseum. What we see today is what remains after damage by various earthquakes and man, who has not hesitated to use as a quarry of building materials and to strip it of marbles and other precious decorations. They used the materials to build other buildings and palaces elsewhere in Rome. There are eighty entrances on the ground floor and each one numbered.

This is the Piazza di Spagna. It is in the center of Rome. Let's play a game. Instead of "Where's Waldo", "Where's Mom" amongst the lovely people on the Spanish Steps?
